CONTEMPORARY TOWN GARDEN, CLIFTON, BRISTOL

Bristol gardens are often small. This one was no exception! But when you use a simple garden design, pale colours and a minimal palette of materials what emerges is a stylish contemporary garden which seems larger than it is. Perfect for a city bachelor pad!

City space is always at a premium and must sell both itself and the house to advantage. This Clifton courtyard space, albeit tiny, was clearly not doing that! Lack of privacy from neighbours behind was also a problem.

One of our partnership’s key practices is to establish exactly what the client likes and what is most suited to the space. In this case crisp minimalism in both hard surfaces and planting offers bags of contemporary styling while leaving the main space free to enjoy the urban vibe of ‘the room outside’.

Key notes of clipped box cubes and standard olives give year round good looks. Stylish stainless steel wiring complements the evergreen Clematis armandii on the west-facing wall and bespoke metal trellis clad with scented jasmine screens the buildings to the rear while obscuring minimum amounts of precious sunlight. Bring on the summer!
