Garden Design by the Hegarty webber Partnership, Bristol, UK

Rural Retreat

This property presents as a spacious, well maintained residence in its own sizeable grounds boasting sensational views to the North. Our design creates internal structure and more interest in the area to the West side of the property which until now has been predominantly lawn with a high conifer hedge as the only backdrop.

Our brief included a wish that we keep expensive hard landscaping to a minimum. In keeping with the rural location, selected ‘multi-season’ trees and shrubs form our basic structure, and the garden route leads you, between mixed, ‘woodland’ borders to the more open northern boundary. Here the panoramic views are framed with mop headed Acers.

The rhythmic curves of the borders soften the house. Repeating a limited palette of plants throughout the borders gives the unity and cohesion which make this area ‘garden in its own right’. The differing shades of purple, white and blue dotted with concentrated spots of crimson reflect the client’s love of variety and colour.
