Garden Design by the Hegarty webber Partnership, Bristol, UK

City Courtyard

Courtyard gardens are another of our specialities. This tiny garden, typical of many in Bristol, measures just 5m by 5m. It is shady in the winter, sunny and intensely hot in summer.

Here dramatic foliages are grouped to blur the boundaries, making the garden seem larger and giving that sense of lush and cloistered seclusion which city dwellers crave.

Plants have been selected which are tolerant of the southwest city winter without recourse to using fleece or taking them in for the winter. Many are in large pots, thus minimizing watering.

Clinical aluminium furniture provides the necessary contrast and urban chic in this must-have outdoor entertaining space.
