Mendip Estate

A late nineteenth century house which has been successively enlarged to make a substantial family residence, with fine views overlooking the Severn Estuary. We have been asked to redesign the entire 5 acres, with a brief to concentrate initially on the entrance, drive and parking areas and their immediate surrounds.

Major problems to be solved here comprise a poorly located drive, inadequately screened boundaries, a lack of internal structure and the navigation of many tons of quarry spoil!

Our design moves the entrance to the property for better visibility and access, provides a sweeping drive, screens the northern and western boundaries with lush planting and provides for internal screening. We also take advantage of dramatic changes of level arising from old quarry workings and spoil, exposing rock faces and moraines to provide niche growing environments for plants. Extending the existing terrace to create a comfortable family dining area completes stage one of this project.
